This nine-part series is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to develop valid, defensible, and operationally viable microcredentials for students and adults.  The series consists of eight virtual workshops that culminate in a practicum during which you create a microcredential.  You will get a virtual toolkit with job-aids and guidelines as part of the series.  The four-hour workshops are scheduled over an eight to ten week period from noon to four Eastern Time.  Make-up sessions can be scheduled at mutually agreed on times.  Groups of five or more can arrange for non-public sessions.  The practicum is scheduled at your convenience.  You must complete all eight workshops and fulfill the practicum to receive the Certified Microcredential Specialist (CMS) designation.  The virtual four-hour workshops are:

Part 2: Define the Need, the Target Audience, and the Success Metrics

Part 3: Study the Work and Define the Microcredential Elements

Part 4: Define the Performance Outcomes

Part 5: Develop and Validate the Assessments

Part 6: Define the Administrative and Oversight Requirements

Part 7: Establish the Mark and Create Marketing Messages

Part 8: Implement the Microcredential

Learning Outcomes

Given a request to develop one or more microcredentials for students or adults, you will be able to:

• Scope the project into deliverables that are measurable.
• Conduct a study or facilitate a study of the work to identify the required knowledge, skills, and performance outcomes.
• Organization the work into one or more microcredentials.
• Create or oversee the creation of assessments to measure the performance outcomes.
• Identify and manage sampling, construct, administrative errors that threaten the validity of a microcredential.
• Design an administrative and oversight process to preserve the integrity of the program.
• Identify the administrative requirements for the assessments.
• Develop an implementation plan.
• Measure and demonstrate the value of the microcredential.
